THE CLINICAL CROSSROADS

Where Cancer Care
Meets Kidney Medicine

The Harvard Onconephrology Symposium 2026
focuses on one of the most complex intersections in contemporary medicine:
the management of kidney disease in patients with cancer and hematologic disorders.

Modern cancer therapies have transformed oncology, but they also create new
diagnostic and therapeutic challenges for nephrologists and multidisciplinary
cancer teams.

This symposium explores these challenges through expert lectures, clinical
discussions and case-focused sessions spanning kidney injury, glomerular disease,
monoclonal disorders, transplantation, chemotherapy nephrotoxicity,
immunotherapy and emerging cancer treatments.

ONE PROGRAM • MULTIPLE DISCIPLINES

A Multidisciplinary Approach

01

NEPHROLOGY

Kidney injury, glomerular disease, GFR, transplantation and renal protection.

02

ONCOLOGY

Cancer therapies, treatment-related toxicity and multidisciplinary patient care.

03

HEMATOLOGY

ONCONEPHROLOGY IN PRACTICE

The Clinical Decision Path

STEP 01

Identify the Cancer Context

Understand the malignancy, hematologic disorder and current therapeutic strategy.

STEP 02

Evaluate Kidney Function

Assess AKI, GFR, proteinuria, glomerular disease and other renal abnormalities.

STEP 03

Determine the Potential Mechanism

Consider malignancy-associated disease, drug toxicity, immune injury and monoclonal processes.

STEP 04

Balance Cancer Therapy & Renal Risk

Evaluate treatment continuation, modification, rechallenge and kidney-protective strategies.

STEP 05

Coordinate Multidisciplinary Care

Integrate nephrology, oncology, hematology, transplantation and supportive care.
